DeBardeleben, Joan
Joan DeBardeleben is Chancellor’s Professor of European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies at Carleton University in Ottawa. She is also founder and Director of the Centre for European Studies (EU Centre of Excellence) and of the Canada-Europe Transatlantic Dialogue, a major network of Canadian and European experts funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. She is the author of several books and articles dealing with Russian and East European politics, particularly relating to federalism, democratisation, public opinion and elections, labour relations, and environmental issues. Her current research projects deal with EU-Russian relations, German-EU relations, and Polish-Russian relations. She also conducts research on the political significance of recent changes in Russian federalism and on democratic participation in the European Union, particularly in relation to European Parliament elections and in the new member states of central and eastern Europe.
